Department The Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering seeks a visionary and accomplished academic and administrative leader as the Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME). The next ME Chair will work closely with the Dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and the leadership team to further its goal of becoming a top college of engineering. Current focus research areas of the department include Thermal-Fluids, Aeronautics & Propulsion, Robotics, Magnet Technology, and Advanced Materials. The ME department plays a critical role in the College of Engineering’s strategic plan including Next Generation Air and Space Transport System, and Robotics. The ME Department currently has approximately 28 faculty, 85 graduate students, 360 undergraduate students and annual expenditures in excess of $6.5 million. More information about our department can be found at The Chair will oversee curriculum development, serve as a mentor and evaluator of the faculty, and facilitate a collegial and productive work environment for a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. The chair is expected to lead the faculty and students in their quest for excellence in education and research and create a vision and long-term goals for the department. The Chair will work closely with the ME Advisory Board, building relationships with industrial supporters and alumni.Qualifications Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and have an exemplary record of scholarly activities. The next ME Chair is expected to possess strong administrative skills, be a leading expert in a research area critical to the department and passionate about undergraduate and graduate education. The vision of the chair for the department and the ability to attract additional faculty are especially important. Candidates with national and international visibility are preferred. Experience with multidisciplinary collaborations is valued.
