The part-time Mentor will work in the Office of Specialized Services to provide academic, vocational and social support to students of the Turning Point Program for their successful inclusion in a traditional college environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual/development disabilities desirable
  • Responsible for meeting with mentee for scheduled sessions
  • Act as a resource and guide
  • Assist with homework, scheduling appointments and exploring career goals
  • Work closely with staff through mentor meetings and email communication
  • Serve as an example/role model
  • Respect mentees’ right to self-determination and independence
  • Teach mentees how to advocate for themselves
  • Develop meaningful and beneficial relationships
  • Work towards the inclusion of mentees in typical college settings
  • Utilize the available supports on campus
  • Provide evaluation for each mentee (per session) within a week
  • Report concerns immediately to Mentoring Coordinator or Head Mentor
