In this information age where communications are constant, yet ever-changing, never has the ability to communicate a message in creative ways been more important nor has innovation in program delivery been more crucial. This position is a key management position for the Institute and the incumbent will serve as an important member of the management team and as an advisor to the Institute director. Specifically, this position develops the overall communications plan for the Institute ensuring the public, clients, potential clients, university collaborators and administration are aware of CVIOG programs and opportunities. Included in the communications plan will be an aggressive marketing effort (including the use of social media as well as the web site and traditional media outlets), development strategies, as well as innovative ideas for program delivery. The position is critical to serve in a supervisory capacity for the unit which includes graphic design, editing, web design (including intranet), public relations, and feature article creation. The position is also charged with the design and preparation of key communications tools (including speech and presentations) for the Institute director and other members of the management team.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit at computer for long periods of time. May require some travel to attend meetings, conferences, and/or events. Occasional after hours work required as needed.

Develops and directs implementation of communications strategy and plans, including branding and messaging for the Institute. Maintains a strong presence on behalf of the Institute throughout the university and publicly.

Conceptualizes and directs development, editing, and production of print and on-line publications and other materials, including digital communications such as video and a variety of social media outlets to meet marketing, educational, and others needs for the Institute. Assigns and reviews stories, releases, and e-communications and manages distribution. Manages media inquiries and story development through the Institute, UGA Public Service and Outreach and UGA News Service processes.

Contributes to the Institute’s development efforts as well as presentation assistance for the director and other faculty and staff members as needed.

Oversees administrative functions of the unit. Supervises staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, development and implementation of work plans, coaching and mentoring. Oversees budget and financial/business activities for the unit.

Directs development of and helps coordinate exhibit materials and other special projects for the Institute and contributes to meeting and event planning. Other related duties as assigned.
