About the College/Unit/Department

The Office of University Architects for Facilities Planning (OUA) is responsible for the development and management of the campus master plan, including transportation planning, historic preservation planning, environmental planning, and precinct planning; the development and management of campus site design and architectural standards; GIS management of existing conditions; and the coordination and project management of major capital projects for all of the UGA campuses across the state.

24 hours per week Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The days or times work will be completed may shift depending on the requirements of the projects being managed.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Individual performs project oversight leading to project success. This oversight includes comprehensive responsibility for all stages of the project from project programming to project close out. Projects may include alteration and repair projects to existing university buildings or new building construction projects.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulatory agency guidelines as well as construction methods and construction administration.
Ability to communicate and effectively establish and maintain working relationships with university faculty and administrative personnel.
Project management including management of design professionals and contractors.

Physical Demands

Requires sedentary desk work for computer related and administrative tasks. Regular on-site inspections requiring walking through active construction sites. Travel to active construction sites which may require some overnight stays. Willing to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Individual performs project oversight leading to project success. This oversight includes comprehensive responsibility for all stages of the project from project programming to project close out. The employee oversees planning, budgeting, scheduling, designing, and constructing of assigned projects. Projects may include alteration and repair projects to existing university buildings or new building construction projects. Work requires construction site visits for OAC meetings as well as for overall project management. Professional communication with university department personnel, contractors, subcontractors and material and equipment vendors is a must. This position provides direction to the design professional and the contractor related to all facets of the project. In addition, the employee must evaluate vendor proposals and negotiate services & costs. The employee will prepare contracts and gather/prepare other information regarding program, design, final construction documents, equipment lists and construction administration for a number of projects which are at various stages of development.
