The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a bilingual (Spanish & English) Part-Time Program Assistant for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP). HEP is a federally funded program designed to support students from migrant and seasonal farm-worker background to obtain a GED. The program assists with both financial assistance and academic support services, with the goal of attaining a GED and sequentially, obtaining a job, enroll in post-secondary education or enroll in the military. The PT Program Assistant for HEP will assist in various administrative tasks and student follow up. The PT program assistant will maintain student files by assisting the HEP staff in creating and filing recruitment files, academic plans and placement plans. In addition, they will become a strong retention agent by creating rapport with students and help plan the programs’ yearly events. The position will start the on Mid-February or early March 2019 and is expected to work evenings ~4pm-9pm Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9am-5pm on Saturdays, for a total of no more than 19 hours a week for 48 weeks/year or until allocated yearly funds deplete as the position is grant funded. Some travel maybe required. Position is dependent on grant yearly renewal and upon completion of grant goals.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Program Assistant will:

  • Maintain student files by assisting the HEP staff in creating and filing recruitment records, academic plans and placement plans, including student outreach to update files as needed; build strong rapport with students to increase retention and degree attainment.
  • Assist in recruitment efforts, including orientation, new student intake and on-campus events.
  • Assist the instructional staff in maintaining attendance records and supply inventory; help supervise student staff and conduct motivational activities for students.
  • Assist with social media and help plan programs’ events (i.e. graduation and cultural outings)
  • Assist the HEP Staff in general administrative duties.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have knowledge of various software and general computer skills (efficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Power Point.)
  • Ability to manage various tasks, prioritize duties and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organization skills.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree or some college is preferred.
  • Some experience working in an office setting preferred; preferably in higher education.
  • Knowledge and experience working with underrepresented populations is a plus.
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Must have reliable car and driver’s license.
