The SHC Psychiatrist works independently in performing assigned student services and consultations with SHC medical staff and CAPS counseling staff. Consultation could involve advice regarding psychiatric diagnostic treatment and psychotherapeutic activities and are in accordance with the overall operation of the SHC and within the scope of the program established by the Board of Trustees. The incumbent may provide highly specialized advice regarding planning, coordinating, and evaluating ongoing psychiatric care of students. All staff are expected to conform to CSU, State, and Federal regulations and laws. Although unlikely, there may be an occasion of brief evening or weekend work. Working collegially and collaboratively to support student success is the bottom line purpose of this and all SHC positions.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from a medical school and completion of one or more residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent in a specialty appropriate to their assigned specialty duties.
License and Certification Requirements:
Physicians - Specialty Services must possess* and maintain:
-A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.
-Current board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) specialty or subspecialty appropriate for their assigned specialty duties.
-A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and number for prescribing controlled substances.
-Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications-Experience with teenage and young adult health concerns and opportunities.
-1 year practicing as psychiatrist
-Organizational efforts to support community resilience and wellbeing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities-Thorough knowledge of current and advanced principles of general psychiatry, including knowledge of available community resources and how to use them.
-Demonstrated skills in diagnostic clinical decision-making and critical thinking.
-Demonstrated ability to provide accurate psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
-Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform patient care in functional areas to which assigned.
-Working knowledge of ethics and standards of local and national medical associations and understanding local, state, and federal government regulations.
-Working knowledge of software applicable to this position, such as medical record and scheduling software.
-Skill in oral and written communication sufficient to communicate with both patients and SHC staff; possession of good customer service and public relations skills.
-Ability to quickly assess emergency psychiatric situations and provide the necessary prompt course of action.
