The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources (www.cnr.ncsu.edu/fer/) has 61 full-time teaching and research faculty with a wide variety of strengths in forestry and natural resources management, tree improvement, silviculture, economics and policy, environmental technology, fisheries and wildlife, forest biotechnology, international forestry, biodiversity, conservation and restoration ecology, and geographic information systems. The Department offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees, and currently has approximately 600 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Active research programs within the Department generate about $6 million annually in extramural funds. The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources houses three forest industry cooperatives and one forest consortium whose combined membership totals more than 100 state and federal agencies, private forest industries, REITs, and TIMOs with forestlands primarily in North America, Central America and South America. The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University invites applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track position in Forest Biometry/Growth and Yield. The appointment is 45% research, 45% teaching and 10% service. The candidate should have experience in forest biometry and mensuration. The qualified candidate should have at least one degree in forest management and scholarship in forest biometry/growth and yield. Applicants should have clearly demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in the department, college, and university.Other Work/Responsibilities
Teaching and Mentoring Responsibility:
The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in forest biometry courses across the forest management curriculum, including a three week mensuration course at forestry summer field course, a junior level biometry course, and a graduate course in the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate will be responsible for advising and mentoring forestry undergraduate and graduate students and provide consultation to the College Forest Assets team.
The candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program in forest biometrics and mensuration and have a strong background in biostatics and quantitative methods. The candidate is expected to collaborate with the three forest industry cooperatives (Tree Improvement, Forest Productivity, Camcore) and the Southern Forest Resource Assessment Consortium.
The candidate will serve on academic (e.g. departmental, college, and university) committees, supervise forestry undergraduate club, and engage with professional society committees and activities.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in forest biometry, forest management, or closely related field, and preferably at least two years of post-doctoral experience.Departmental Required Skills
