Job Details
The primary responsibility of a faculty member in the Virginia Community College System shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis shall be on good teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities—to help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become better people, better workers, and better citizens.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeaching Air Conditioning and Refrigeration courses full-time. Advising students in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program. As a part of this primary responsibility, the College expects each faculty member to: meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts;conduct requisite student conferences; hold required office hours; attend to assigned divisional and College duties; contribute to the development of the program of instruction; adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization and advise students.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s in the teaching field or Associate’s in the teaching field with demonstrated competency in the teaching field. A minimum of two years of College level teaching experience in the teaching field and/or related occupational experience. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, and weekend classes. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Preferred QualificationsSome community college or university teaching experience is preferred. Significant occupational experience (at least 5 years) in field and supervisory experience in HVACR. Experience teaching a diverse student population. HVAC Masters License. Experience teaching hybrid courses and demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard or Canvas) with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPractical application of the principles of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Proficiency in installation and service of HVACR equipment. Demonstrate the skills necessary to teach the fundamental and advanced concepts of installing and servicing HVACR equipment. Ability to design, supervise, evaluate and troubleshoot lab assignments to demonstrate student proficiency. Ability to use instructional technologies. Commitment to safety. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
