The Center for Ecosystem Science and Society (Ecoss) works to understand how ecosystems function and how changes to these systems impact our future. Ecoss has grown substantially since its inception in 2014, becoming a leading research institution in this field. Ecoss collaborates with the McAllister program in Community Culture and Environment (CCE), together working to communicate about science, environmental, and climate-based challenges with diverse stakeholders. Ecoss and CCE together seek to expand collaboration with community partners across Arizona and the nation to provide expertise to decision makers. Ecoss also plans to expand its offering of workshops and hands-on training in new methodologies developed by Ecoss faculty and researchers, bringing scientists from across the world to learn from and collaborate with Northern Arizona University. With this growth, Ecoss and CCE are searching for an outgoing, self-motivated individual to develop and manage these new programs as well as assist in streamlining existing administrative processes to provide the best service to students, staff, faculty, and the university.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement program to provide expertise in ecosystem science to local and national decision makers
  • Develop and implement new program goals and objectives
  • Interact and liaise with community leaders at the city, state, and national level
  • Develop and facilitate high-value workshops and meetings; coordinate logistics, scheduling, and communications with speakers and participants
  • Develop and implement training program for students, staff and faculty to improve communication with community leaders at the city, state, and national level
  • Evaluate program effectiveness to develop and implement improved practices
  • Assist in streamlining processes in other programmatic areas as assigned, including but not limited to resource allocation, reimbursements, payments, publications tracking, and grant submission
  • Manage department events, workshops, and conferences
  • Work closely with lab managers and faculty to host national and international visitors and speakers
  • Coordinate logistics and scheduling with other university departments and community partners
  • Identify funding opportunities from outside sponsors for workshops and work with principle investigators to develop and submit proposals
  • Manage workshop and conference budgets with a high level of independence
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty in developing effective training programs for students and employees in areas including but not limited to internal processes and professional development
  • In collaboration with research faculty, the communications and outreach coordinator, and the visual communications coordinator, manage department website and evaluate effectiveness of outreach and employee resources to develop and implement improved end user experience
  • Monitor or supervise the activities of subordinates
  • Other duties as assigned

    Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

    Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

    Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year’s Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing.

    **The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

    This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
