Position Summary:
Facilitates co-curricular education and development of Middlebury College students through management of student activities, events, and organizations. Advises, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the Middlebury College Activities Board, the College's campus-wide programming board. Serves as primary coordinator of student organization management.

Essential Functions:
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Middlebury College Activities Board (MCAB)

• Ensures there is effective programming by advising the College’s primary programming board (MCAB), the group responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating student programs and activities

• Selects, trains, and advises MCAB committee chairs and members

• Administers MCAB’s annual budget of over $300,000

• Encourages individual student involvement, leadership skill development, and organization development among members of MCAB

• Supervises MCAB’s late-night and weekend programming as needed

• Negotiates, executes and signs contracts in alignment with College policies and ensures contractual obligations are realized

• Assists with the planning of major events such as Orientation, SOS Fest, Fall Family Weekend, Homecoming, Winter Carnival, Midd Mayhem, and other College-wide functions.

McCullough Student Center

• Participates in development and execution of McCullough Student Center policies and procedures

• Researches, advises, and coordinates maintenance and facility improvements in the McCullough Student Center

• Works closely with The Grille, Crossroads, and student organizations to offer late-night programming during the academic year

• Understands, utilizes, and navigates the Resource 25 (Live 25) computerized reservation system

• Develops systems for efficient and high-quality event management

Student Organizations

• Leads the student organization re-registration process - connecting with over 150+ student organizations

• Works with student leaders to develop, promote, and execute events and activities on campus

• Assists student organizations with budgeting, training, and leadership development

• Educates student leaders about College policy, including but not limited to event planning requirements, hazing and non-discrimination infractions, and financial responsibilities

• Serves as a Cluster Manager for A Cappella student organizations (may be other cluster area as passion and expertise allow).

General

• Work to create a more equitable campus environment through advocating for diverse student participation in programming, and in leadership positions.

• Serves as a campus expert on developing and implementing campus wide programs, often serving as an advisor for large scale events, and assisting in complex problem solving and event implementation strategy.

• Supervise Technical Coordinator, guiding that position in overseeing the Production Advisory Group with special attention to performance technology for student organizations and Summer Language School co-curricular programs.

• Assists the Associate Dean of Students for Student Activities and Orientation in developing, implementing, and assessing co-curricular programming and policies, procedures, and standards related to student organizations.

• Works closely with the Associate Dean for Student Activities and Orientation to establish, maintain, revise, and execute long and short-range strategic plans.

General Responsibilities:

• Assists with office programs
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifcation
Education:
Master’s degree in student Personnel Services, Higher Education Administration, or other related field, or 3 or more years related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Position requires irregular hours, night and weekend work.

• Ability to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds and to be respectful and responsive to diverse populations. Desire to learn more about various cultures and acquire skills to work effectively across difference.

• Skilled at tracking budgets, requesting funds and allocating funding appropriately.

• Competent in using relevant technologies for efficient work and easy access for students.

• Knowledgeable of contemporary issues of higher education and student affairs.

• Ability to work well with multiple constituency (students, families, parents, colleagues).

• Performs administrative tasks in timely and efficient manner.

Experience:

• Experience with lighting, sound reinforcement, and audio-visual equipment desired.

• Previous programming, contract negotiation, and budget management experience preferred.

• Experience producing large and small events by planning effectively, collaborating with campus partners and implementing resource to produce event required.

Physical Demands:

• Requires frequent bending, crouching and reaching. Requires frequent walking and long periods of time standing.

• Must be able to climb stairs, sit at a computer for long periods of time, and complete errands across campus

• Must be able to lift and carry heavy, in excess of 60 lbs, audio/visual equipment up or down several flights of stairs occasionally.

• Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 25 lbs frequently
