Position Summary

Core Responsibilities:
● Responsibility for the coordination and provision of operational support to tutoring and related embedded tutoring and instructional support programs throughout the main campus and the Elk Grove Center, such as Supplemental Instruction, and student assistance in various disciplines.
● Working with faculty, staff, and college outreach personnel to collaborate on defining and implementing the most effective and beneficial tutoring services for our current and incoming students.
● Supporting and consulting with college-wide initiatives and programs such as Guided Pathways and Student Experience Lifecycle.
● Coordinate and direct operations of the college Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services to ensure that services provided match the needs and schedules of our students.
● Working with the assigned supervisor to assist with hiring, evaluating, and training of staff and student workers as necessary to provide responsive, quality services.
● Responsibility for the operational budget of the Tutoring Center, for ensuring that expenditures are kept within the scope of the assigned budget and working with the Dean to recommend a sufficient budget for the effective operations of the Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Responsibility for the promotion and marketing of tutoring services to students.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Coordinating, directing, and administering tutorial services, including recruiting, training, and evaluating tutors in the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Coordinating intervention curriculum/strategies with the usage of multiple instructional methodologies, such as computer mediated instruction for basic skills and for students with skill deficiencies.
● Coordinating the computer laboratory and tutoring services in the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Coordinating the attendance and accounting for the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Coordinating the budget and assigned resources for the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Planning, organizing, and supervising the activities of the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Providing leadership in cooperation with faculty for the acquisition, development and implementation of alternative instructional methodologies to help students achieve academic success.
● Facilitating the delivery of learning skills/tutorial instruction.
● Designing, coordinating, and providing computer assisted instruction and alternative methods of basic skills instruction including online, multimedia, small group, independent study, and individualized and/self-paced instruction.
● Providing assessment of individual students’ learning skills deficiencies, referring students to appropriate services or prescribing appropriate skills development activities.
● Providing individual assistance to students with reading, writing, computational, and study skills deficiencies, and conducting ongoing assessment of student progress.
● Coordinating with faculty to develop and manage student success initiatives which meet tutorial/learning needs of students through alternative methods of instruction including: technology, tutorial services and instructional services for students requiring just-in-time academic support or intervention.
● Reviewing, evaluating, and selecting or recommending materials to be used in providing learning skills and tutorial services for students requiring skill-specific academic support intervention.
● Working with the area dean and key instructional faculty to design and implement programs to help students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content.
● Working with faculty, utilizing new/innovative instructional methods and other methodologies to use or create intervention strategies and curriculum for the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Supporting and consulting with college-wide initiatives and programs, such as Guided Pathways and Student Experience Lifecycle.
● Assisting and collaborating with faculty in seeking funds to pilot and evaluate new/innovative interventions and services that could be evaluated and used in the Tutoring Center and other areas offering tutoring services.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

The assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend and/or off-campus work and/or hours.

General Responsibilities:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: coordination of tutoring and instructional programs and/or teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Assignment may include instructing classes, which could result in an Instructional/Coordinator split assignment.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers (LRCFT) contract Article 2 (The initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).

1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution, completed by July 1, 2019, in any discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college; OR, have a master’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, or Instructional Psychology; OR, have a master’s degree with an emphasis in Adult Learning Theory; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent.*

2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Physical Demands Salary $49,505 to $82,075 annually. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overload, and stipends.
