Performs skilled work in the operation of trucks, light tractors, backhoes, loaders, bulldozers and related automotive equipment. Provides assistance and labor in the construction and repair of sidewalks, pads, steps, retaining walls, etc. Provides assistance and labor for site grading/preparation, digging of trenches for some utilities and maintaining all campus drainage systems for proper storm water management. Work is routine and repetitive in nature, and is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as operating equipment, cleaning equipment, and lifting materials. Employee demonstrates an understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Required Qualifications

Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 6 months experience or combination of experience and training. Excellent eye, hand and foot coordination. Ability to operate equipment in response to crew members’ hand or audio signals.
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge and skill in the operation and servicing of various heavy and complex construction equipment.
Skills: Considerable knowledge of the hazards involved in equipment operation and the safety precautions necessary. Basic computer skills and ability to prepare simple reports. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to operate flatbed, forklift, trailer or other truck transporting material or crew to project. Ability to operate trucks and equipment safely, in tight spaces and in accordance with traffic laws and regulations. Pre-employment drug screen required. Valid driver’s license required.
Interpersonal: Interacts with others in the work area in a manner that encourages accomplishment of work tasks and ability to work as part of a team.
Customer Service: Effectively listens and responds to customer needs and understands the role of customers in the work environment.
Communication: Listens to instructions and asks necessary questions to complete tasks. Communicates with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: 2 years or more experience operating various types of heavy equipment, including minor maintenance and repair.
Skills: Commercial Driver’s Licensed (CDL)

Salary Minimum $14.48 - Midpoint $17.85 Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Working outside in adverse conditions. Ability to stoop, bend and squat for extensive periods of time. Ability to lift 50 to 125 pounds with assistance.
