DepartmentThe Executive Director, Alumni Engagement is charged with increasing alumni engagement, loyalty and support in fulfillment of the University’s ambitious alumni engagement goals. The Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership for the development of alumni engagement strategies for the University of Toronto, including its constituent divisions, to ensure that targets are met annually through unique, scalable, and high-quality engagement opportunities in keeping with the University’s mutual value proposition to alumni. By overseeing the successful creation, execution and evaluation of high-quality engagement initiatives, both centrally and in divisions, the Executive Director ensures that alumni engagement is broadened, deepened and aligned with Campaign revenue pipeline development.

Campus(MINIMUM)

EDUCATION:
Undergraduate degree in related field (graduate degree preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE :A minimum of ten years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing or similar professional work experience required. Preferably within a University or similarly complex public sector environment, with at least five (5) years experience in program development, marketing and communications. At least five (5) years of experience in managing staff.

Demonstrated accomplishment in developing alumni engagement strategies. The vision and courage to break new ground and establish the highest standards of excellence with alumni engagement. Demonstrated acumen to manage staff; the ability to build, lead, mentor, and motivate staff; and to encourage change and growth in both people and programs.

SKILLS:

•Vision, the ability to think and plan strategically, and a creative, entrepreneurial spirit
•Demonstrated experience and success managing, motivating, and mentoring volunteers and alumni relations professionals, bringing out the best in teams and individuals
•A successful track record of establishing strong, interpersonal relationships internally and externally, with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout the University, alumni, other constituents and the public.
•High level of initiative, maturity, tact and diplomacy; excellent judgement and discretion
•The ability to serve as an articulate, credible representative of the University with diverse constituencies and particularly with the sophisticated individuals who support the institution at the major gift level
•An engaging personal style, a sincere interest in people, patience, a willingness to listen, and the capacity to engender trust and to establish lasting relationships
•A reputation for integrity, openness, decisiveness and sound judgement
•A high level of comfort interacting with academic leaders as well as alumni, donors and volunteers.
•The ability to navigate and be effective within a complex matrix organization that values collaboration and teamwork as well as individual initiative and creativity
•Excellent attention to detail and superb organizational skills, including the ability to set campaign fundraising goals and timelines and to establish an internal system for meeting deadlines, tracking, follow-up, monitoring, and reporting of progress
•Ability to work in a hectic and results-oriented environment with a strong focus on results; ability to meet deadlines and budgets.
•Exceptional oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
•Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
