Department The Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering seeks a visionary and accomplished academic and administrative leader as the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). Current areas of the department include Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation and Construction Engineering. In the current College of Engineering’s Strategic Plan, still evolving, the department plays a critical role in the cross-cutting areas of mobility in urban environments and resilient and sustainable infrastructure. The Department currently offers programs leading to the B.S., M.Eng, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering. The undergraduate program is ABET accredited. The Department has 19 full-time faculty members and approximately 350 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. The chair is expected to lead the faculty and students in their quest for excellence in education and research and create a vision and long-term goals for the department. The next CEE Chair will be expected to partner with existing faculty to foster and advance research and education. The vision of the chair for the department and the ability to attract additional faculty are especially important. The next CEE Chair will report to the Dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and work closely with the college’s leadership team to further its goal of becoming a top 50 college of engineering. The Chair will work closely with the Industrial Advisory Board, building relationships with industrial supporters and alumni.Qualifications Applicants must hold a doctorate degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field and have an exemplary record of scholarly activities, a strong record of securing research funding, effective undergraduate and graduate education, and experience in or aptitude for academic administration.Preferred Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) License or the ability to obtain a Florida PE license is desirable.Contact Info Any questions about the position should be addressed to Dr. Tarek Abichou at [email protected] Information The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the unique combination of two outstanding universities with overlapping but distinct missions - the nation's top Historically Black College/University with a Tier-1 research university.
