Assistant Director of Student Philanthropy & Recent Grad Engagement is responsible for the management of assigned classes and student programming as part of a comprehensive college-wide program for Alumni Class Programs, Class Reunion Campaigns and Student and Recent Graduate Philanthropy outreach.

The Assistant Director will partner with Alumni Association Staff, University Events Staff and other College-wide partners to coordinate effective recent alumni and student engagement opportunities.

The position is responsible for the management of 5 classes, including 1 reunion class, as well as student programming as part of a comprehensive college-wide program for Alumni Class Programs, Class Reunion Campaigns and Student and Recent Graduate Philanthropy outreach.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Assistant Director is charged with program modification for specific classes, volunteer engagement and management, class giving and alumni and student philanthropy outreach to include key college-wide recent alumni and student engagement events, new initiatives and unit support.

The position will assist the Sr. Associate Director to develop and implement strategic plans to maximize dollars through and participation in, William & Mary’s volunteer and student programs and work in unison with officers and research staff to develop goals and giving strategies.

Responsibilities also include (but not limited to):

  • Heavy interaction with benefactors for the direct solicitation and closure of reunion and class gifts.
  • Develop and implement creative strategies to enhance the culture of philanthropy and to develop long-lasting philanthropic relationships that include the student experience. Components include an annual Senior Class Gift Campaign and the advisement and management of a student-run group focused on illustrating the impact private support provides the College.
  • Lead or collaborate on a variety of projects, such as alumni reunion programming, off-reunion year programming, student programming and communications; centered on the impact and involvement of private gifts.
  • Responsible for reporting, assessment and ROI for reunion campaign efforts for assigned classes. Establish measurable outcomes for participation, new attendees, degree of impact surrounding attendance on giving and other variables surround events and report on ROI for reunion campaign efforts for assigned classes.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required with substantive experience or specialized expertise directly related to the position.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of academic fundraising with the ability and desire to reach aggressive goals.
  • Strategic vision to create and manage a regional team to harness the potential of the larger community toward engagement and philanthropic goals.
  • Fluency in using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software applications to include Microsoft Office, databases and web-based applications.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage and train volunteers and students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with an expertise in drafting and executing creative individual and region-wide donor, prospect, and volunteer strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently.
  • High level of independence and ability to work effectively and successfully off-campus and without close supervision.
  • Commitment to teamwork and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Substantive experience, with progressively responsible experience in academic fundraising or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in alumni relations, volunteer and student management and or advising experience or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Significant experience in higher Education fundraising is desirable.
