Stanford University is seeking a Senior Director, Content Strategy to be part of an integrated communications team that promotes and elevates the brand and reputation of Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care.
Reporting to the chief communications officer, the Senior Director, Content Strategy is responsible for planning, developing and implementing overall editorial strategy for Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care. In this role, the incumbent will oversee production of content for the organizations' 10+ social media channels and production of numerous publications; develop clear, engaging, and targeted messaging strategies for each channel and publication based on unique audience needs; work closely with heads of internal and external relations to ensure cross-publication message alignment; guide strategic content decisions on digital platforms and on organizations' top-tier web sites, and oversee use of analytics to measure impact of content and inform decision making.
The incumbent will lead a strong, collaborative team consisting of content strategists, social media producers, writers, editors and video producers; work with stakeholders across the university to cross-promote and leverage one another's content; and provide general communications counsel to school and hospital leadership, as well as faculty members and researchers.

Duties include:

  • Plan, develop and implement overall editorial strategy for organization.
  • Serve as part of an integrated communications team that promotes and elevates the brand and reputation of Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care.
  • Develop and oversee digital and social media strategy for organizations.
  • Oversee digital media analytics program.
  • Engage with key Stanford School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care and University stakeholders to preserve and enhance overall Stanford brand.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, targeted communications and editorial strategies tailored for different audiences and channels.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic communications programs that enhance an organization's brand and reputation globally.
  • Experience leading innovative and successful digital media programs and using analytics to inform decision making.
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships and to successfully motivate and lead a strong, quick-moving team of content producers and communication professionals.
  • Skilled at making quick, strategy-based decisions within a highly dynamic, fast-paced work environment.

    Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Proven ability to achieve an organization's vision, values and programs through marketing initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging integrated marketing strategies to achieve goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, diplomatically, honestly, and sensitively with all levels of management and staff, across multiple organizations.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Proven people manager, with the ability to motivate, grow and train staff across functions.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing department budget.


  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
