About the College/Unit/Department

In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated research to the community.

Research is done on a wide range of commodities, including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia.

In 2004, a teaching program was initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

This position is located in Tifton, GA, which is approximately 200 miles southwest of Athens, Georgia, 200 miles south of Atlanta, GA and approximately 70 miles north of the Florida line.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Incumbent will provide administrative support for scientists, technicians and other employees in Crop & Soil Sciences Extension with day-to-day clerical/administrative duties. Duties include, but are not limited to, answering phones, processing travel authorizations and reimbursements, entering and tracking electronic check requests and purchase orders, processing 4-H check requests, maintaining balances on 4-H accounts, processing other 4-H documentation as needed and handling other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge and skill in basic office practices and procedures; ability to type and operate basic office machines; computer literacy with knowledge of basic computer software programs (Word, Excel, etc.) and the Internet; basic language, spelling, communication and arithmetic skills; ability to follow both oral and written instructions; ability to work well with others; ability to use independent judgment and discretion; must be self-motivated with the ability to work without direct supervision. Must also have a pleasant personality and get along well with others.

Light lifting and sitting for long periods of time.

Set up educational training workshops.

Order and handle catering arrangements for workshops and other work related events.

Set up pesticide trainings with the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

Submit check requests to pay vendors.

Maintain Excel spreadsheets to balance state and grant accounts.

Maintain 4-H accounts, which includes, but is not limited to processing check requests, posting payments, balancing accounts, mailing paperwork, transferring funds, obtaining W-9’s and FEI numbers and mailing checks to vendors.

Use Quicken to maintain balances on 4-H accounts.
