Duties

The Brain Behavior Lab (BBL) at Penn Medicine and the Lifespan Brain Institute (LiBI) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Penn Medicine are seeking a full-time Data Analyst to join their measurement team. The Penn Computerized Neurocognitive Battery (CNB) and Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment (CAPA) are computerized batteries of tests and scales that measure multiple domains of neurocognition and clinical symptomatology. These batteries facilitate cutting edge research in cognitive and affective neuroscience, including use in the Army, Marines, NASA, large-scale genetic studies, and many others across the globe, including Antarctica.

We are seeking a full-time Data Analyst to join our team immediately. Responsibilities will include supporting principal investigators, postdoctoral fellows, and technical staff with analyses and other procedures related to various datasets. For example, the Analyst will work with the BBL measurement team to analyze item-level data and outcomes, with the goal of improving existing versions of cognitive tests and clinical scales. Example analyses for this and other projects would include: regression, factor analysis, multilevel or mixed modeling, item response theory (IRT) calibration, supervised machine learning, and several others. Beyond analysis itself, Analyst duties also include: extracting, importing, and exporting data in various applications; restructuring and/or merging datasets; running queries on datasets; preparing datasets for analyses; resolving data inconsistencies; and checking for completeness and quality of data. Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on the successful candidate’s skills and interests.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years or more of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Position Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree (any major) with courses in Statistics, Computer Science, Math, Actuarial Science, Psychometrics, Econometrics, Bioinformatics, or other STEM-related topics, and 2 years of experience. We will consider a candidate with less experience if s/he has a graduate degree in STEM (e.g. M.S., M.S.E., M.E., etc.).
* Experience with R

Position Preferences:
* Some familiarity with psychological measurement (e.g. Item Response Theory), such as coursework in Psychometrics
* Experience in biomedical or psychological research or data management
* Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and/or CSS

This position offers a highly interdisciplinary research experience, combining approaches from the neurosciences, psychiatry, experimental psychology, and statistics with neuroimaging and genetics. The Analyst will be able to learn from established experts in the fields of neuroscience, biostatistics, psychometrics, and clinical psychology, and will have the opportunity to present and publish his/her work (if desired).
