Job Description Summary

Two positions are available with SPARC, Inc., a local nonprofit, is seeking a student that can immediately start as a coordinator for an after school homework program for students who live in La Verne’s Copacabana housing community. The program consists of students in grades K-12, who will receive school tutoring and a snack.

This position has a starting pay of $13.00 per hour.

Specific Duties

Primary Job Functions

  • Check in students as they arrive
  • Tutor students: help them with homework questions in a variety of subjects
  • Plan Physical Activities for Students
  • Oversee the Kids’ Reward Program (incentives for kids to do their homework, get good grades, help clean up, etc. – more information about this program will be provided)
  • Set out the snacks, and help with setup and cleanup
  • Plan arts and crafts for low homework days
Minimum Qualifications
  • No prior experience with teaching or tutoring is necessary.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Currently enrolled at University of La Verne
Preferred Qualifications
  • Can commit to three (3) days a week from 3-5:30pm with the possibility for more hours
  • Possesses strong communication skills
Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.

University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.

In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.

Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
