Manages the daily operations of Mendel Center spaces under the control of MCO including Mainstage, Grand Upton Hall, lobbies, hallways, grounds, and other event spaces including facility appearance and functionality, contract compliance, budget management, client management, and oversight of technical and other support services. Ensures an exceptional customer service experience and overall safety of students, faculty, staff, performers, clients, and all other guests. Responsible for developing and executing event rentals sales strategy to clients, event planners, and promoters. Leads and manages group ticket sales efforts. Manages the execution of events as required.

Essential Functions:

1.Manages day-to-day operations of all MCO building space including safety and security, equipment maintenance and equipment inventory. Manages the Facility maintenance and improvement requests and IT requests. Serves as the MCO liaison and coordinator for Facilities projects and WFF Custodial Services special maintenance requests and conflict resolution.
2.Manages the technical services contract including weekly hour allocations, project scheduling, invoicing, and conflict resolution.
3.Generates rental event business for all MCO spaces by proactively selling the venue to new clients; works closely with MC event managers to ensure clients’ expectations match the spaces and services available and to ensure a smooth handoff from sales to planning to execution.
4.Works with Mainstage Director to attract and maintain relationships with promoters for Mainstage co-productions and professional rentals.
5.Generates group ticket sales for Mainstage brochure shows by proactively reaching out to new groups and proactively managing relationships with existing groups; researches opportunities in the tourism and group sales market, working collaboratively with marketing, the box office, Mainstage Director and MCED.
6.Provides input into website, social media, print materials, and other marketing efforts to ensure they are effective tools for generating sales.
7.Assists MCED with developing budgets, strategic plans, and measuring results. Responsible for day-to-day monitoring and management of designated line items in the MCO and Econ operations budgets.
8.Serves as front of house manager, back of house manager, and event coordinator as needed.

Accountabilities:

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, Mendel Center Operations, The Mendel Center Sales and Operations Manager is responsible for meeting operational sales revenue targets and ensuring that event clients and patrons within the Mendel Center have an exceptional experience.

Job Specifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Two or more years of experience in a coordination or management role in a theater, performing arts center, event center or comparable venue required. Exceptionally strong skills in sales, preferably with events and group ticket sales. Strong attention to detail, exceptional interpersonal skills, and good written, verbal, quantitative, and organizational skills. Must have a track record of being a team player. Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Required to work a variable schedule, including extended work days and weekends as dictated by scheduled events.

Grade: 8 Salary Range: $39,187 - $58,156 Special Instructions to Applicants:

    Lake Michigan College is located in southwestern Michigan, approximately 90 minutes from Chicago and 40 minutes from South Bend, Indiana. Situated on the Lake Michigan shoreline, the College’s 580-square-mile district includes all of Berrien County as well as Covert Township and the South Haven school district in Van Buren County.

    The College’s four campus locations serve 170,000 residents with unique degree and credential offerings, online courses, and a reputation for quality instruction. The College serves nearly 7,000 students annually, drawing students from seven surrounding counties in Michigan and Indiana. Recent examples include expansion of health care career program offerings into the new Healthcare Education Institute; introduction of an energy production technology program culminating in a baccalaureate degree in energy production; and a five-year project, funded in part by a $2 million Title III grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, to redesign all science curriculum and renovate classroom space on two campuses. Finally, as one of the first “Achieve the Dream” Colleges in the country, the College uses data extensively to monitor and report on student success and institutional achievements.

    New initiatives on the horizon include the addition of on-campus student housing scheduled to open in fall 2014. The dorms, located on the Napier Avenue Campus, will attract even more students from an even greater radius. The College will also soon be one of the first community colleges in Michigan to offer a baccalaureate degree program thanks to recent State legislation that opens up this opportunity to better serve residents.

    The College has developed on-campus partnerships with Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, and Siena Heights University to increase access to higher education within the region. These partnerships provide local, specialized training in agriculture as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a variety of majors.

    In addition to programmatic offerings, the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center for Arts & Technology is located on the College’s main campus in Benton Township. The Mendel Center is a 190,000-square-foot conference and performing arts center that attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually through conferences, meetings, and events, as well as through national and international touring entertainment in the 1,517-seat Mainstage theater.
