Job Details
Applicants must have earned a PhD in History or Industrial Relations by the date of appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence as demonstrated by research of an internationally competitive caliber, publications in leading field-relevant scholarly journals, high quality working papers, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsement from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through strong letters of reference, teaching accomplishments, teaching evaluations, the teaching dossier, teaching statement, and sample syllabi submitted as part of the application.
Research and teaching expertise in the following areas is required: globalization and labour/economic history.
The successful candidate will teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and is expected to develop an independently funded program of research. Candidates must be able to teach a selection of courses in industrial relations/human resources and must have strong communication skills as well as demonstrated success in developing students’ mastery of a subject and of the latest developments in the field. Our PhD program is quantitatively and analytically oriented, as such these skills would be expected for involvement in the program including supervision once tenure has been achieved.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources is internationally renowned for the study of work and employment relations from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and empirical approaches. Historically, faculty with strong empirical methods and training in economics, management, sociology, history, law, psychology and political science have been actively engaged in employment / industrial relations research and teaching. The Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies is an incubator for research across the humanities and social sciences with a vibrant undergraduate program and a growing collaborative graduate program. We therefore welcome applications from scholars interested in labour and globalization from a range of disciplinary backgrounds.
