Job Description Summary

The purpose of the tutor role is to work in collaboration with The Learning Connection (TLC) Program in Pomona Unified School District (PUSD). Tutors lead a group of students through various activities during the after school program.

This position has a starting pay of $13.00 per hour.

Specific Duties

Manage and implement lessons and activities in a small group setting of up to 25 students. Serve as a role model to inspire students to achieve their maximum potential. Communicate with site staff regarding students’ progress and behavior. Attend professional development training’s offered throughout the year.

Minimum Qualifications

General Requirements:
•Must be a current Federal Work Study recipient at the University of La Verne.
•Must be in full-time status for their program.
•Must be willing to travel off-campus for the position via own transportation.
•Must successfully complete and pass a background check, including fingerprinting.
•Must successfully complete and pass a TB Test (paid by the student).
•Graduation from high school or GED and one of the following:
o An AA Degree or higher
o 48 semester (72 quarter) units from an accredited college/university
o Satisfactorily pass the District’s Instructional Aide test

Preferred Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:
•A desire to work with children in grades K-8. Basic knowledge in the areas of: visual and performing arts, mathematics, science and technology, health and nutrition, kinesiology, or youth development is preferred.

Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.

University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.

In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.

Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
