The University of Virginia Library seeks an Undergraduate Student Success Librarian to support the Library’s teaching and undergraduate outreach efforts. This position will work collaboratively with the others in the Library to support the teaching and research initiatives of both the Library and University; design outreach initiatives which connect undergraduates with the research community; develop programming for underserved populations, including first generation, international, and transfer students; deliver classes and workshops to support information literacy across the university; collaborate on the creation of instructional materials and activities; assess classes, tools, and student information literacy development; and, engage with faculty and instructors to integrate information, digital, media, and data literacy concepts and skills into the curriculum. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy; awareness of innovations and trends within the library and education fields; and, a commitment to radical inclusivity, continuing professional development, creativity, and resourcefulness.

The Teaching and Learning department strives to deepen the library's connections and partnerships with faculty, students, and other centers on campus. This position will collaborate with a cohort of library staff dedicated to the development of sound pedagogical practices, inspirational teaching methods, innovative outreach programming, and critical attention to the development of research skills, and will join with a team of disciplinary experts to support and promote excellence in research, scholarship, artistic production, teaching and learning for all members of the academic community. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with Teaching and Learning team members and others in the Library to support the teaching and research initiatives of both the Library and University.

  • Design innovative outreach programming to connect underserved populations with Library resources.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for interdisciplinary undergraduate education programs in the College, in particular the First Year English Writing, University Forums, and College Advising programs.

  • Lead orientation activities for the Library and participate in resource fairs throughout the year.

  • Deliver excellent classes and workshops to support information literacies across the University and collaborate on the creation of instructional materials, outcomes, and activities.

  • Develop assessment tools and assess classes, tools, and student information literacy development.

  • Maintain awareness of innovations and trends within the Library and Education professions and propose, implement, and promote services and technologies that adopt new models of teaching and learning.

  • Commit to continuing development of teaching skills and on-going evaluation and self-assessment of teaching.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library and Information Science OR an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline.

  • Able to work proactively, effectively, and collegially with colleagues, clients, and administrators at all levels.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, or a commitment to do so at UVA.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience collaboratively designing, teaching, and/or assessing course-related information literacy instruction sessions at the college level.

  • Experience in or familiarity with the operation of an academic library at a research institution.

  • Experience in teaching sufficient to demonstrate mastery of information literacy instruction practices.

  • Evidence of continuing professional development, creativity, and resourcefulness.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This job requires standing for up to two hours; Repetitive motion using a computer keyboard; Proficient verbal, auditory and visual skills; Ability to speak clearly and effectively in public settings to large groups; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/pull up to 15lbs. This job occasionally requires walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position has an anticipated hiring range of $60,000 -$70,000
