The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design invites applications for two full-time, open rank, tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Architectural Design. Anticipated start date is as early as July 1, 2019.
Ranked the #6 Graduate Program among architecture schools in the 2017 Design Intelligence Survey, UCLA Architecture and Urban Design is well-recognized for its excellence in design, scholarship, and research. Degree programs in the department include a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies (B.A.), a professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.I), a post-professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.II) in advanced architectural design and research, and a Master of Arts/Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture (M.A./Ph.D.)
The three-year M.Arch.I curriculum prepares students for the practice of architecture by providing a focused framing of today's cultural, ecological, political and technological questions with a view to what architects may bring to bear on such complex issues. At each stage of the curriculum, AUD graduate students become equipped to not only lead the professional field but also to construct new opportunities by positioning their design activities within a rapidly changing world. Our post-graduate program is a ten-month research program focused on four themes: Mobility, Entertainment, Urban Strategy and Technology and is located at a satellite campus. This program, unconstrained by professional accreditation requirements, introduces students to real-world questions in collaboration with industry partners to expand the architect's role in shaping the future.
We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following subject areas:
Regardless of focus, all applicants must demonstrate a strong and ongoing contribution to the field, including a commitment to academic scholarship in the context of a major research university such as UCLA. An established body of published work that indicates future promise is especially desired.
Candidate qualifications must include evidence of exceptional skill and pedagogical sophistication in architectural design studio teaching as well as in practice, research and/or creative work related to design. Candidates should have three or more years of university-level teaching experience. We seek candidates with precisely articulated and focused interests, the ability to engage in the full breadth of the architecture curriculum, and demonstrable expertise that engages contemporary practice. Candidates with demonstrated administrative capacity are encouraged to apply and qualified candidates may be considered for a two-year renewable appointment as Director of Undergraduate Studies, a junior/senior year major awarding a B.A. in Architectural Studies.
A Master of Architecture degree or higher is a requirement for this position. Responsibilities will include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, research, advising and service. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The workload is determined at the discretion of the Department Chair and requires a service commitment to the Department and the University as requested by the Chair.

UCLA is a public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
