The role is responsible for reviewing the different sections of the credit balance report to ensure that all FA credit balances are released within the timeframes set by the Department of Education. Each team member is assigned a subset of credit balances to review, process, and service. Team members review each credit balance to ensure eligibility and are responsible for their timely release. Credit Balance team members are expected to be knowledgeable regarding all regulations pertaining to the execution of credit balance releases, excess funds transfers and all other Credit Balance Team functions. Each team member is also responsible for the research of check and/or direct deposit transaction inquiries as well as all inquiries that pertain to any credit balance function.

  • Ensure that credit balances are processed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Responsible for the execution of credit balance refund policies, requirements, and procedures
  • Provide superior customer service and efficiency in response to business partners and student inquiries
  • Stay informed and responsive to changing program regulations
  • Accurately perform excess funds transfer calculations and associated decisions
  • Promote a work environment that is positive, student-centered, and compliant with established policies and procedures
  • Support cooperative cross-functional, cross-regional communications and dialogue by maintaining a close working relationship with regional teams, Bursar, Internal Audit, Accounting/Finance and related groups including third party servicers
  • Work independently and provide regular status updates to management team
  • Ensure the security of reports, documents, systems, and students’ personally identifiable information
  • Effectively use information to identify and escalate issues as needed
  • Assume responsibility to prioritize emerging issues, handle concurrent objectives and meet deadlines
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Certificates, licenses and registrations: 

  • None

Work Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in a student financial aid role preferably at the higher education level or experience in an accounting role

Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles
  • Proficiency in following a prescribed criteria and make resulting decisions
  • Must have strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
