Job Description:

The Office of Faculty Development of Bellarmine University is seeking an instructional designer to play a vital role in advancing its educational mission and strategic plan by supporting faculty in the development of robust, innovative, experiential, and student-centered digital courses and materials that align with the University's standards of excellence.

The instructional designer will provide consultation and hands-on support to faculty, programs and schools in development and conversion of courses and programs to innovative online and other technology-assisted educational venues, utilizing cutting-edge technologies, creative design, and a variety of strategies for delivery. This individual will be responsible for consulting and working with faculty to create effective, engaging, and dynamic learning materials and environments in Moodle, Bellarmine's learning management system, utilizing appropriate instructional technologies. This will involve curating third-party resources, as well as creating interactive media and activities first-hand, through the use of industry-standard eLearning authoring tools. The instructional designer will also manage the institution's review process for new online courses, as well as other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Innovative Learning Systems.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative, and tech-savvy course designer who can effectively work with diverse constituencies and manage multiple projects at once. Outstanding organizational and communication skills are a must, as is expertise in visual communication, digital media, and project management.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with particular expertise in visual communication and digital media
  • Expertise developing innovative, engaging, and accessible educational materials and experiences for electronic delivery; examples of work will be required
  • Experience applying knowledge of instructional design theory and best practices
  • Expertise with eLearning authoring tools, media production hardware and applications, and best practices in accessible course design
  • Experience developing courses within a learning management system
  • A demonstrated aptitude for team-based project management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • Professional experience teaching online in higher education
  • Experience assessing the quality of eLearning courses or instructional materials, utilizing industry standards such as Quality Matters

Additional Information:

As directed by the Director of Innovative Learning Systems, the instructional designer will:

  • champion substance, quality, accessibility, and engaging design in all aspects of electronic course content;
  • proactively consult with faculty to identify learning objectives and content;
  • work with faculty and subject-matter experts to write, convert, produce and develop content and media for online, hybrid, and blended courses;
  • track and coordinate all assigned online/blended course development projects;
  • manage the institution's quality assurance process for online courses and programs;
  • work collaboratively across the University to promote innovation and effectiveness in instructional design.

Organization

The Associate Director manages the daily personnel, facilities management and financial operations of the Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs (NRIEP) and reports to the Director. The primary personnel duties include: managing and participating in the selection of all prospective employees (including staff and students), directly supervising three full-time, two part-time staff members, and student employees.The primary facilities management responsibilities include working with Room Committees,Tour Coordinator and Pitt Facilities representatives to identify and oversee maintenance, repairs and upgrades in existing classrooms, gift center and 12th floor suite. In consultation with the Director, this position will also lead efforts tied to the planning and construction of new classrooms.Principal financial duties include: managing and monitoring all accounts (i.e. unit operations, tour and gift center revenues and expenses, gift and scholarship endowments, and room construction accounts), developing budgets for various projects, authorizing and approving expenditures in consultation with the Director as appropriate.The Associate Director will have primary responsibility for identifying external funding opportunitiesand writing grant proposals, tracking and reporting for all grants, and overseeing the collection ofdata for all grants.The Associate Director must be able to work with minimal supervision, represent the center in a professional manner, work efficiently on multiple projects, and maintain good rapport with staff,faculty, students and representatives of other University units and departments.
