Job Summary/Basic Function:
The College of Music at the University of North Texas is looking for an experienced Opera Coach of high artistic standards and sensitivity to join the faculty in the Division of Conducting and Ensembles to support our nationally recognized opera program -- UNT Opera.

Teaching Duties: coach and prepare singers (diction, style, musicianship, dramatic delivery); conduct rehearsals; provide collaborative piano support for rehearsals, performances, auditions, etc.; work collaboratively with the Opera Music Director and/or Director of Opera; other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Division of Conducting and Ensembles or the Dean of the College.

Additional responsibilities include service to the College of Music, the University, and the opera profession in ways that align with the interests of the applicant; collaborative piano support for various outreach, fund-raising & publicity events; active participation in recruiting outstanding undergraduate and graduate students.

UNT Opera presents three full productions accompanied by the UNT orchestras, and up to two concert operas each year. Productions are carefully selected with the goal of giving our students a wide variety of repertoire in a broad range of musical and theatrical styles. Students are given opportunities for solo or ensemble roles in productions that emphasize process as well as product. Through consistent, individualized training, students achieve the highest standards of performing excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Masters Degree in Music is required as well as advanced collaborative piano skills; a minimum of 3-5 years experience as an opera coach at the university or professional level; expertise in diction (English, Italian, German, French and Spanish); a broad knowledge of operatic and musical theatre repertoire and clear evidence of collegiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
The Doctorate in Music is preferred as well as Czech language diction proficiency and the ability to conduct UNT Opera performances.
