Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Counseling Program at UNT seeks a clinical assistant professor with a demonstrated record of strength in teaching and service to support the program's academic initiatives and nationally recognized stature. The successful candidate will serve a nine- month, non-tenure track appointment beginning Spring semester 2019. Based on successful annual evaluation, the appointment may be renewed annually. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (1) coordinating the School Counseling Cohort Program at the New College, Frisco, (2) teaching three [3] courses each semester in CACREP core and counseling specialty areas; (3) providing clinical supervision to master's and doctoral level students; (4) advising/mentoring students; (5) serving on dissertation committees; (6) working with faculty members in the Counseling Program and with those centers, institutes, and clinics affiliated with the Program to maintain and enhance the Program's national stature; and (7) participating actively in professional organizations and university committees.

The Counseling Program offers masters' and doctoral degrees in counseling and an undergraduate minor in counseling associate studies. The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred accreditation on the following tracks in the counseling program at UNT: clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and the Ph.D. in counseling.

The UNT Counseling Program was the first in the nation to receive the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision's Outstanding Program Award and earned that recognition again in 2000. Beginning in 1998 when U.S. News & World Report began ranking counseling and counseling psychology programs housed in colleges of education, the UNT Counseling Program ranked among the top 20 programs nationally for nine years; for 2013, the Program ranked 13th in the nation and 1st in Texas. In 2016, the Program ranked 1st in Texas, 3rd in the South, and 4th in the nation by Best-Education-Schools.com; and it ranked 10th in the national by GraduatePrograms.com.

Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate must hold a doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program by start of employment; must demonstrate a record of effective teaching, supervision, and professional activity; and must demonstrate strength and flexibility to teach across the CACREP core, including both clinical and didactic courses.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include (1) school counseling certification; (2) school counseling experience; (3) licensure as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, and (4) a strong identity as a teacher and supervisor of the counseling of clients across the lifespan.
