Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Review of applications will begin November 16 and the position will remain open until closed.

Nationally, the University of North Texas is rated as a top-tier research university, denoted Doctoral University: Highest Research Activity (R1) in the Carnegie Classification. UNT ranks among the top universities in Texas for the number of doctoral degrees it awards annually and, with 38,000 students, is one of the largest educational institutions in Texas. UNT is the most comprehensive university in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the nation's fourth largest and fastest growing metropolitan area. The UNT campus in Denton, founded in 1890, is the flagship of the UNT System. It is located in a town of 134,000 people about 36 miles north of Dallas-Fort Worth. UNT has the advantages of both nearby large cities that offer a wealth of job opportunities, entertainment, culture, shopping and professional sports, and a college town that offers a peaceful haven for study and research. The campus is highly diverse: 24% of undergraduates are Hispanic/Latino, 14% are Black or African American, and 52% are women.

The Chemistry Department has 20 faculty members and about 100 graduate students, whose research interests span the traditional areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Increasingly, however, new frontiers fall at the intersections of two or more of these areas and interdisciplinary studies are encouraged. There are several groups of faculty who collaborate in particular specializations including materials, forensic, computational, and organometallic chemistry.

The Chemistry Building (which opened in 2004) is a state-of-the-art 105,000 sq. ft. facility that is aesthetically pleasing, with plentiful space for students and faculty to interact both formally and informally, in line with our culture of faculty readily accessible to students. The department maintains an extensive range of modern instrumentation and a world-class in-house computing facility.
