Description of Duties

Tired of fighting about whether you’re rhetoric, composition, communications, literature or creative writing? Tired of just theorizing about “making a difference” and ready to actually do it? Tired of teaching disengaged millennials and ready for sincere, thoughtful, and fired up Gen Z students?

Come join the team at North Central University. NCU – a Christian liberal arts college located in the vibrant heart of downtown Minneapolis – is looking for an energetic competent instructor with vision and fresh ideas about creative writing, composition, critical race theory, journalism, and/or literature (any period) to work with our Departments of English, Communications, and Digital Media. Our ideal candidate doesn’t fit a pre-defined disciplinary ‘niche’: They have a plan for transformative teaching and community engagement and is waiting for the right school to take a chance on them. That’s us.

Faculty responsibilities include teaching 12 credits per semester (4 classes) of creative writing, literature, and composition courses. Additional responsibilities may include advising the English honors society (Sigma Tau Delta) and overseeing the publication of the literary journal. Faculty members also serve as academic advisors, work collaboratively on departmental and university committees, participate in the spiritual life of the NCU community, and engage regularly in professional development and scholarly activity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. or M.F.A. in English or closely related field
  • Preferred areas of specialization/interest: transnational literature, creative writing
  • At least two years of teaching experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Regular scholarly or creative activity
  • Ability to teach using effective instructional methodology and pedagogy, including classroom technology; proficiency in online delivery a plus.
  • All faculty members are expected to be committed Christians, model a consistent Spirit-filled life, be considerate of the Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, be a member in good standing of their local church, and abide by the Community Life Standards of the University.
