The University of California Irvine (UCI), Departments of Physiology and Biophysics ( and Ophthalmology ( invite applications for a full-time position as part of a multi-investigator cluster hire initiative to enhance and expand existing strengths in the area of vision science and related diseases. This academic appointment will be either at the tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor levels, which confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.

The Departments seek applicants with an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree who will be expected to establish an extramurally funded independent research program related to vision and/or retinal diseases with an emphasis in biochemistry, biophysics, ophthalmology, pharmacology and/or physiology. Successful candidates will have an established record of NIH funding, a significantly established research program, and strong background in teaching.
The appointment will include membership in the newly established Center for Translational Vision Research. The cluster aims to create a synergistic interdepartmental concentration that utilizes multidisciplinary approaches to more deeply understand and address pathologies of visual disorders. The program will leverage outstanding existing resources and strengths of UCI Health, the School of Medicine, and partners across the UCI campus, including the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, the Cancer Research Institute, the Bill and Sue Gross Stem Cell Research Center, and the Institute for Immunology. Candidates will be expected to support institutional and departmental teaching and mentoring missions to medical and graduate students, residents, fellows, and young faculty. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and expectations.
