The Teacher Education Department in the College of Education at the University of North Georgia invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education in the Elementary and Special Education Program beginning August 2019. Specifically, we are searching for a candidate who specializes in elementary-level literacy and has K-6 teaching experience.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Elementary and Special Education Program, which is housed in the Teacher Education Department. The faculty member is expected to teach specified courses, prepare course materials, provide support and guidance to students, foster professional relationships with public school partners, maintain records pertinent to accreditation, and supervise students in completing field placements. Commitment to a collaborative curriculum development model is expected. The primary teaching location will be in a Professional Development Community on or near the Gainesville campuses with the opportunity of additional locations, as needed. General faculty responsibilities in the Teacher Education Department include the following:
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses face-to-face, hybrid, or online;
- Supervise candidates' field experiences in a professional development community;
- Advise students;
- Maintain active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization;
- Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community;
- Participate in program review, program assessment, and accreditation activities; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The successful candidate must have familiarity with teaching, learning, and education theories; a commitment to being a collaborative member of a PDC model;
- Knowledge of current national standards;
- Ability to work collegially with other members of the faculty and utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration; and
- Professional written and oral communication skills.
- Required qualifications include a doctorate in Literacy Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience in K-6 schools is required.
