The Department of Sociology and Human Services at The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a full-time, ten-month, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Human Services.

The department of Sociology and Human Services is accredited by the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE) and is the only nationally accredited program in Georgia. The department of Sociology and Human Services focuses on providing students with applied training within a rigorous academic setting.

The University of North Georgia is a University System of Georgia Institution, and the Human Services Delivery and Administration program is nationally accredited. Located in the fastest-growing region of the state, the University of North Georgia is a multi-campus university with an enrollment of over 19,000 students, making it one of the largest institutions in the University System of Georgia. UNG is focused on a mission of educational excellence, leadership development and community engagement opportunities that develop students into leaders for a diverse and global society. Through a variety of educational pathways that provide access and range from certificates and associate degrees to a professional doctoral program, UNG is responsive to regional education and economic development needs. Federally designated as a senior military college, one of the university's signature leadership programs is its 800-member Corps of Cadets on UNG's Dahlonega Campus. This position will be based on the Gainesville Campus, 45 minutes north of Atlanta.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong commitment to diversity and social justice.
  • Take a lead role in the development of a M.S. in Human Services.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, academic advising, collaborative curriculum development.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment.
  • Provide evidence of scholarship through publications and presentations in peer-reviewed environments.
  • Have programs of research and/or engagement that offer the ability to include undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Teach courses according to the needs of the department.
  • Serve on departmental, school and University committees.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology or Counseling at the time of appointment; Related fields not listed above may be considered
  • All applicants must have applied experience in the area of Human Services. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in gerontology and/or counseling.
  • Experience with program development, providing student supervision in service learning or internship programs, and or program evaluation for accreditation considered a plus
  • Certification (ex HS-BCP) or licensure considered a plus.
