Description

The primarypurpose of an admissions counselor is to serve as a liaison between theUniversity and the community at large. To serve in this capacity entailsvisiting community colleges, students and their parents, and other educationofficials without supervision at private visits in college fairs and at otherspecial functions throughout Tennessee, Georgia, & Alabama.Responsibilities include:

  • Representing UTC at day and eveningprograms, community college visits, scholarship programs, etc., primarily inTennessee and surrounding states.
  • Interacting with prospective students whovisit or call the Admissions office including high school students, transferstudents, foreign students, parents & adult students.
  • Following up with initial contacts madevia mail, email, telephone & private visits; participating in specializedprograms likes Freshman/Transfer Orientation, phone calling campaigns, off-campus.
  • Planning and coordinating recruitmentevents for prospective students in specified areas such as overnight trips tocampus; conducting daily tour talk presentations to visitors explaining collegeopportunities available to students enrolled at UTC.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, with Master’s degree preferred. Must have 1 to 3 years of campus involvement (RA, SGA, Orientation leader, tour guide, Enrollment Services offices, etc.) or related experience in recruitment/admissions, either while in school or professionally.

Preferred experience includes:  two to three years’ experience in a college admissions office or comparable collegiate/business experience; experience within the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, or higher education in Tennessee; and experience in the evaluation or transfer process.

The successful candidate must have strong organizational skills; the ability to handle multiple and ongoing projects; strong oral and written communications skills; knowledge of admission policies and academic programs; a valid driver's license; and the ability to lift and load boxes.

Frequent evenings and overnight travel is required. Occasional weekends are required.
