DESCRIPTION: The Center for Spatial Studies at the University of Redlands is a team of GIS educators and professionals working to support the University’s mission to excel as a spatially-infused learning community. The Center strives to accomplish this mission by empowering faculty and students to integrate spatial thinking into their academic, personal, and professional lives; fostering cutting-edge spatial research and scholarship; enhancing the academic reputation of the University of Redlands; and helping create a better world through meaningful community service.
Under the direction of the Director of Spatial Technology, the Spatial Applications Developer provides technical leadership and GIS/Spatial/Mapping programming support for instruction and projects. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to analyze requirements, identify software solutions/platforms, and develop custom web and desktop tools and applications to support teaching and research, as well as general University operations projects.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Design and build custom web and desktop applications for research, instruction, operations projects supported by the Center for Spatial Studies
• Support/train students, faculty, and staff in the use, extension, and customization of Center-supported software and tools
• Collaborate on database design and implementation
• Supervise and support student interns
• Promote the university’s spatial programs through outreach, social media, and events
• Performs other related duties or special projects as assigned or directed.
The ideal candidate also possesses strong verbal and written communication skills and must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students.
