The Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for a position as a tenure-track assistant professor to play a role in our Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program. This position requires an active research program and carries a 3-3 teaching load. The candidate will teach primarily in the Master of Public Administration program but may also contribute to one or more of the other PIA programs: the undergraduate major in political science, the Master of Coastal and Ocean Policy (MCOP) program, and/or our Master of Conflict Management and Resolution (CMR) program.
Detailed Job DescriptionMinimum RequirementsThe successful candidate must be able to teach one of the core MPA courses (e.g., budgeting, human resources management) and contribute to one of the MPA concentrations in Public Management, Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, etc. A doctorate in Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, or a closely related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered, however, the candidate must complete their doctorate prior to starting the position in August 2019.
Preferred QualificationsThe preferred candidate will be able to teach more than one of the core MPA courses and/or contribute to one of the MPA concentrations. Prior professional experience and prior teaching experience are desirable. A willingness to teach courses using online and distance education technologies and alternative scheduling formats is desired. Primary Function of Organizational UnitThe Department of Public and International Affairs supports the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and several minors: International Affairs, Nonprofit Management and Leadership, Political Science, Pre-Law, Public Administration, and Security Studies. At the graduate level, faculty support courses in the Master of Public Administration, Master of Arts in Conflict Management and Resolution, and Master of Coastal and Ocean Policy.
