Full-Time Lecturers - Department of English

The Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks a Full-Time Lecturer in English general education literary studies program to begin September 1, 2019.

This position carries a 4/4 course load, is contracted and benefited, and has access to on-going professional development and department service opportunities. Contract is for two years and is renewable. We are particularly interested in increasing the diversity of our faculty and strongly encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach general education courses attractive to students from all majors, will have the occasional opportunity to teach upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, and will teach first-year writing courses as needed. Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate advising and/or mentorship. We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who uses pedagogical innovations and excites students in literature by making inter- and cross-disciplinary connections (e.g. Literature and Medicine, Law, Environment, Animal Studies, Disability).

UMass Dartmouth is on the south coast of Massachusetts, less than an hour’s drive from Boston, Providence, and Cape Cod. UMass Dartmouth is a doctoral research university (DRU) providing excellent undergraduate education. These Full-Time Lecturer positions represent an administrative commitment to and investment in general education as the cornerstone of an undergraduate education.

Minimum Qualifications: ABD in English or closely related field required. At least two years of experience and demonstrated success teaching writing at the college/university-level are required.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in English or closely related field or Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition. Experience in any of the following areas will be a plus: ESL/multilingual learner certification or instruction; teaching developmental writing; teaching professional, technical, and/or scientific writing.
