The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Office of Research Administration seeks an experienced, proactive Director for the Office of Human Research Protection Program (OHRPP). Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, the Director oversees all administrative and compliance activities related to protecting human research participants, including operating the institutional human research review boards, supporting and educating researchers, collaborating with units across the large and dynamic UCLA campus, and representing the University externally across the UC System and with research partners nationally and internationally. The ideal individual will have: experience operating human research protection activities in an environment similar in complexity to UCLA; deep understanding of the field’s current and emerging regulatory requirements; and proven ability to build and maintain collegial relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Founded in 1918, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a premier institution within the ten-campus UC System. It offers 337 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines. With an approximate enrollment of 30,000 undergraduate and 14,000 graduate students, UCLA has the highest enrollment of any university in California and is the most applied to university in the United States with over 137,000 applications in fall 2018. Over the past century, UCLA has evolved into a world-class university, offering a full spectrum of programs and attracting gifted professors, staff members, and students. The University has been part of the prestigious Association of American Universities since 1974.

The Office of Human Research Protection Program (OHRPP) manages the end-to-end system of human participant protection for the University’s $1.1 billion research machine that has over 5,000 active protocols running at any one time. This includes a web-based submission and review system, five Institutional Review Boards, policy and compliance monitoring, and training and quality improvement activities. As a part of the Office of Research Administration, the OHRPP collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders on and off campus, including government and field-specific regulatory bodies, the University of California system, faculty and researchers on campus and beyond, and the University’s medical center and its partners.
