Assistant Vice President, Academic Technologies
Santa Fe College invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President for Academic Technologies and Training. The AVP reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, serves as part of the academic leadership team, and is responsible for providing leadership for administration of the college’s Online Campus, for supporting student engagement and success through classroom academic technologies and the college’s learning management system, and for providing faculty and staff professional development that supports the goals of the academic division and of the college. Candidates must have an understanding of the crucial role academic technologies play in higher education with respect to increasing student access, engagement, and completion, and of current issues in higher education in general and online learning in particular. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in a shared governance environment, and ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences. The ability to successfully build and lead a team with diverse talents and responsibilities is essential for this position.
Responsibilities and duties include:
- Provide leadership for the administration of the college's Online Campus, use of the learning management system (currently Canvas), and comprehensive support services for faculty and students working in online, hybrid, and web-assisted classes.
- Represent the distance learning interests of SF in state, regional, and national meetings (e.g., FLVC, NC-SARA, Educause) and serve as liaison to other colleges and universities for collaborative projects in distance education.
- Collaborate with other SF stakeholders on educational initiatives such as OERs, active learning, and development and delivery of best practices that can improve student success.
- Identify, together with an advisory committee comprised of faculty and academic department chairs, professional development needs related to academic technologies and pedagogy. Develop and implement high-quality, relevant, and interactive workshops and other programming to address those needs. Assess the value and effectiveness of professional development programming and implement improvements to meet college needs.
- Provide leadership for supporting faculty in the design, development, implementation, and delivery of high-quality face-to-face, hybrid, and distance learning courses.
- Oversee research, evaluation, and recommendations related to new and emerging instructional media, technologies, pedagogies and practices.
- Oversee the Media Studio, which provides a range of video services to the faculty and college, including video production and use of the studio for instruction.
- Oversee the Testing Center and Assessment Center, which provide testing services related to student intake and placement, and assessments associated with classes in all delivery formats.
- Identify and implement new initiatives and strategies that will positively impact student success.
- Administer and maintain numerous departmental budgets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required: Master’s degree in education or an academic discipline is required, with at least five years of relevant experience, including an appropriate combination of teaching, supervisory, and other administrative work. Significant knowledge of and experience with current learning management systems and other academic technologies is required.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred: A doctoral degree is preferred, as is teaching experience in higher education.
