The University ofColorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) for afull-time, benefits-eligible, position with its University Nurse Midwives (UNM)faculty practice in Aurora, CO (on the Anschutz Medical Campus) to provideantepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care to aselect population. This position is clinically-based, and includes anInstructor level, clinical teaching track appointment within the College ofNursing. The University of Colorado, College of Nursing currently has threeacademic midwifery faculty practices and a midwifery education program.

Faculty Practice Description: 

UNM works collaboratively within the OB/GYN department and offers women and families many services including individualized care, group prenatal care, childbirth education, lactation services, mental health services, and referrals to specialty care with the University of Colorado and UCHealth systems. UNM provides full-scope midwifery care to women at the Anschutz Medical Campus and inpatient care to the Metro Community Provider’s Network (MCPN) clinic patients. UNM believes that women benefit from personalized and comprehensive care that focuses on the patient while including the family in the plan of care. The practice provides care to families from many countries and strive to offer culturally appropriate care. This position is a faculty appointment and involvement in the College of Nursing is expected. The nurse-midwife will be part of a midwifery service that consists of 19 CNMs and has a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system.


Supervision Received:

Work is performed independentlyunder the general direction and authority of the UNM Clinical Lead within theCollege of Nursing (CON) faculty practices, Director of Midwifery Services, andthe Associate Dean for Community and Clinical Affairs.

 Supervision Exercised:Student supervision is required. 

Examples of WorkPerformed:

  • Provide full scope care to the gynecologic,antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient
  • Provide care in the outpatient clinic, OB EDunit, and labor & delivery unit
  • Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills inthe outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Attend monthly practice meetings and participatein a minimum of 1-2 practice and/or College of Nursing committees.
  • Educate health care team students (APNs, medicalstudents, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations.
  • This is a health care environment with someexposure to biological hazards and infectious disease.
  • Active participation in health plan contracts.
  • Remain credentialed by the health plans andensure credentialing materials stay current.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing ormidwifery
  • Current AMCB certification
  • Aminimum of one year of full scope practice providing antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well womanand gynecological care
  • CurrentBoard certification as a CNM by date of hire
  • CurrentRN and APN licensures (Any State) (Could be working toward CO clinical licensesduring application process and registered with DORA-Department of RegulatoryAgencies.) Must have Colorado RN and APN licenses by date of hire.
  • CurrentPrescriptive Authority (RxN) Licensure (Any State). Must have Colorado RxNlicense by date of hire.
  • CurrentDEA license within 18 months of hire
  • ValidNPI number by date of hire
  • ValidColorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire
  • CompletedCAQH by date of hire
  • Current BLS and NRP Certification
  • Electronic Health Record(EHR) experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current Colorado State RN & APN Licensures
  • Current, active, Colorado Prescriptive Authority& DEA
  • Limited OB ultrasound skills
