Post-Doctoral Fellow

Thisposition reports directly to the Director of the Radiochemistry Program in the Departmentof Radiology, and is responsible for developing radiolabeled peptides forcancer imaging and therapy. The research involves synthesis, characterization,and in vitro and in vivo evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals forpotential molecular imaging of cancer using SPECT/PET/CT. 


Responsibilitiesinclude organic synthesis, cell culture, HPLC analysis, animal biodistributionand imaging studies. The postdoctoral fellow will work with the principalinvestigator to design the receptor-targeting peptides and use peptidesynthesizer to prepare the peptides. The postdoctoral fellow will determine thereceptor-binding affinities of peptides using competitive cell binding assayand radiolabel the peptides with nanomolar binding affinities. Then, thepostdoctoral fellow will use high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) topurify the radiolabeled peptides for animal biodistribution and imagingstudies.

Specific Position Dutieswith Percentages of Time

85% of her/his time to conduct the experimentsand record the research results, summarize novel research findings for grantreports, and prepare manuscripts for publications. 15% of her/his time topersonal career development and guidance to graduate and undergraduate students.Other duties may be assigned by the PI as needed.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to publish2-3 first-author research papers. In terms of personal career development, the postdoctoralfellow is encouraged to present the results in weekly lab meetings, appropriateresearch seminars, national and international scientific meetings. The postdoctoralfellow is also encouraged to actively attend in the research seminars in the Departmentof Radiology and Comprehensive Cancer Center to learn the latest advancement inthe field of molecular imaging and cancer research. Routine work also includesgeneral maintenance of laboratory and equipment, ordering of supplies, andproviding guidance to graduate and undergraduate students to use the equipment.

Qualifications

Thecandidate must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. Should have research experiencein some of the following areas: organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry,radiochemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology andradiopharmaceutical chemistry. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Usual expectation will be development of an independentresearch area related to current program. Research experience in Radiochemistryor Radiopharmaceutical Science will be a plus. Postdoctoral experience is notnecessary but will be a plus.
