The College of Nursing has an opening for a full-time MidwiferyFaculty Fellow position. Nature of Work:The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a CertifiedNurse-Midwife (CNM) for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefits-eligible, MidwiferyFaculty Fellow position with its University Nurse Midwives (UNM) practice inAurora, CO. This practice position is a12 month limited appointment spanning from July 1, 2019 through June 30,2020. It is full scope including theprovision of antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecologicalcare to a diverse population of women seeking midwifery care and includes aFaculty Fellow level, clinical practice track appointment within the College ofNursing. Midwifery Fellowship (MF) Description:The Fellowship is open to all CNMs who have been certified withinthe past 12 months, but have not worked longer than 6 months as a CNM. The MFwill work full-time (approximately 4 shifts a week) for UNM. Two shifts a weekare in the UNM Outpatient Clinic from 0730-1700, and two are in OBED/Labor andDelivery from 1900-0700, weekdays and weekends. One of the outpatient clinics is a Fellow specific continuity clinic. The OBED shifts are built as anInterprofessional Education rotation where the MF is paired with the Ob/GynIntern in managing night OBED and normal births and is additionally supportedby the OB team and CNM. The fellowship also may include 2-weeks, eitherconsecutively or separately, of travel to an international birth center site inGuatemala, or work within the Indian Health Service system. Expenses related tothe travel are not covered by the University of Colorado College of Nursing.The MF will have mentorship, along with assigned curriculum, designed tosupport both learning as a new graduate and involvement in a presentablequality improvement (QI) or midwifery practice project. Supervision Received: Work is performed independently under the general direction andauthority of the UNM Director, within the College of Nursing (CON) facultypractices, and the Associate Dean for Community and Clinical Affairs. Inaddition, the MF is supervised by the Fellowship Director and FellowshipCoordinator and will have monthly meetings with a primary CNM mentor and asecondary CNM mentor.
Supervision Exercised: Student supervision may occur during clinical placements in theoutpatient clinic after orientation. Examples of Work Performed:
- Provide full scope care to gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum,and postpartum patients
- Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills, as able
- Attend monthly practice meetings
- Active participation in health plan contracts
- Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialingmaterials stay current
- Independent judgment is necessary to monitor and respond tochanges in a client’s condition
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and othermembers of the health care team
- Proficient use of the electronic medical health record
- Participate in activities to grow and develop practice
- Active participation in health plan contracts
- Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialingmaterials stay current
