Professional Research Assistant

The Department of Anesthesiology seeks a highly motivated professional research assistant (PRA) who has the ability to think creatively, work independently, has experience working with human research subjects, and enjoys working in a clinical setting. This full-time position will work with clinical research faculty to coordinate various research projects and clinical trials in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado Denver. This position will be deployed to work on multiple projects in perioperative medicine, which include research in the areas of anesthetic safety/efficacy, critical care, drug metabolism, perioperative complications, coagulation, and pain/opioid prescribing. The job locations will include the University of Colorado Hospital and office/laboratory buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.
The main duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • screening, consenting and enrolling study participants
  • collecting, processing, and storing samples for future research use
  • abstracting data from patient charts and electronic medical records
  • preparing and submitting compliance documentation for the institutional review board and hospital research support services in a timely fashion
  • performing data entry into research databases and excel spreadsheets
  • performing basic statistical analysis using analytic software
  • assisting principal investigators in abstract and manuscript development


QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalentExcellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to understand and interpret medical terminology and medical chartsExperience in using computer-based tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)Excellent organization, analytical and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Candidates with Master’s degree in research-related discipline, prior experience in conducting clinical research (particularly clinical trials), prior experience in clinical setting, experience with IRB submissions and maintenance of regulatory compliance, Redcap database creation and entry, medical chart review and abstraction using an electronic medical record system, ability to handle several research projects at a time, experience with research design, experience with
  • scientific writing, experience in basic statistical analysis
