The Departmentof Pathology is distinguished for its over 100 year history of seminalscientific discoveries, educational and clinical accomplishments.  We employ nearly 100 diverse, subspecialtyfocused faculty from basic scientists to clinical scholars and educators. Aprimary site of practice is our not for profit quaternary care hospital andoutpatient facilities known as the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). It isthe #1 hospital in Colorado designated by US News and World Report year afteryear. UCH is the major academic hospital of the UC Health System, which isaffiliated with hospitals and outpatient centers across the State of Coloradoand beyond.  Pulmonary pathology andmedicine is a major focus of healthcare at UCH and affiliate hospitals.


Nature of Work:

The idealcandidate must be board certified by the American Board of Pathology and musthave completed a subspecialty fellowship in pulmomary pathology at a top tieracademic university. Individuals with practice experience in an academic centerand scholarly accomplishments, as well as those with fellowship training in otherareas of anatomic pathology are preferred. Additionally, evidence ofscholarship and research, especially in pulmonary pathology is desired. Thesuccessful candidate should be eligible for an academic rank from Assistant to AssociateProfessor. Evidence of an ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team,provide one on one as well as case based learning to residents and fellowsfocused on outstanding patient care and evidence based medicine is sought.Individuals should be up to date in board certification by the American Boardof Pathology, must be able to obtain a full unrestricted medical license in theState of Colorado, and credentialing through CU Medicine and UCH.

Therecruit will share signout responsibilities with others in pulmonary andanatomic pathology including frozen section and weekend call. Opportunities forscholarship, and participation in bench to bedside research will be encouraged.For the appropriate candidate, an adjunct appointment in the Division ofPulmonary Medicine, Department of Medicine may be extended. Directors ofsubspecialty areas report directly to the Director of Pulmomary Pathology, upto the Co-Directors of Surgical Pathology, followed by the Vice Chair of AP andChair of the Department of Pathology.

The APpractice at UCH is owned and operated, both technically and professionally, bythe Department of Pathology.  We place astrong emphasis on professionalism, team practice, and lifelong learning, thuswe expect contributions from all faculty to our practice, educational andacademic teaching missions. This position will be in the regular, tenureeligible track. Thus, academic scholarship will be an important component ofthe position. An independent research effort, with external grant funding, isnot required but will be encouraged. Opportunities for advancement andparticipation in research will be abundant.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Thesuccessful candidate must be board certified in Anatomic Pathology and havecompleted at least one fellowship in pulmonary pathology. Training/expertise inother areas of anatomic pathology and research is desirable.
