Assistant Professor

The Department of Film & Television invites dynamicteacher/scholar applicants for a full-time tenure track, Assistant Professor position in Screenwriting for Film and Television. The position willbegin in August 2019 and will have a 40/40/20 split between research, teachingand service. The teaching load consists of five courses per academic year.

 

Denver is growing incubator for Creative Industries and a cultural hubfor media innovation, and the Department of Film & Television is agrowing and collegial department that offers a B.F.A. in Film and Television.Our program is rigorous and involves students in all aspects ofproduction. Students graduate from this program with an extensiveportfolio of films and television projects. The department continues toevolve in tandem with the changing industry and we are looking for a person whois aware of both the current industry trends as well as new models of production,visibility and distribution models. The department is particularly interestedin qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching, industryexperience and expertise, to the diversity and excellence in our academiccommunity.

The successfulcandidate will be primarily responsible for teaching courses related toscreenwriting for both fiction and non-fiction, and should have extensive filmand television writing experience. Candidates who are able to integratemultiple production specialties (i.e. writing, editing, lighting, sound design)are highly desirable.

Experience and/or aptitude inprofessional practice* is prime criteria for consideration, and anawareness/involvement to assure CAM graduates are future-ready to enter thecreative industries. The expectations for all faculty hires will be civicengagement (to advance opportunities for students and attainment for facultyresearch and creative work), participation in student recruitment, and to beactive and dynamic citizens of a culture that engages broadly with thecommunity.

Qualifications

MinimumQualifications:

  • Successful candidates must have an M.F.A. orPh.D. in film or a related field at the time of appointment, or equivalentprofessional experience.
  • An active creative/research agenda and supportingevidence is essential.
  • The ability to work with a diverse group of students,colleagues, and community members is also essential.
  • Must also possess the ability to maintain aclimate that is collegial, respects and values diversity, treats faculty, staffand learners fairly, and that is hospitable to creativity and innovation.

PreferredQualifications: 

  • Highly sought after candidates will possess acombination of both college teaching experience and real world, mediaproduction experience. 
  • Candidates with a noteworthy and recognizedbackground in the film and television industry are also highly desirable. 
  • We especially seek candidates with experienceworking with and mentoring underrepresented groups.
