The Office of Equity has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Civil Rights Investigator position.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus ranks among the top institutions nationally in clinical care, education and research. Its 230-acre campus, designed to enhance collaboration and interprofessional education, hosts the College of Nursing; the Schools of Dental Medicine, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health; the Graduate School; a Health Sciences Library; and two hospitals. Strategically located contiguous to the campus are a biosciences research park and the soon-to-be-completed Veterans Hospital. CU Anschutz offers two undergraduate degrees, 35 graduate degrees, and five first-professional programs. More than 4,000 students learn alongside faculty members who also make meaningful medical discoveries and provide expert clinical care through 1.5 million patient-visits annually. A hub for research and innovation, CU Anschutz receives over $400 million in research awards each year and has filed 1,300 patent applications and formed 53 new companies since 2002. 
Position Emphasis:
Under the Direction of the Director of Equity, the Civil Rights Investigator works closely with the entire Office of Equity staff and other relevant University units to address discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation complaints.  The Civil Rights Investigator will serve as one of two investigators for civil rights investigations involving students, faculty, and/or staff.  The Civil Rights Investigator’s duties include conducting preliminary intake interviews in a timely and impartial manner; assessing reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation; evaluating risk factors and referring parties to other services for safety and counseling as needed; determining whether a formal investigation is warranted by the facts of each case; conducting formal investigations, including drafting notices of investigation, interviewing witnesses, reviewing documents, creating written evidence summaries, and drafting final investigation reports; and making determinations regarding whether a violation of the University’s Non-Discrimination Policy or Sexual Misconduct Policy has occurred.  The Civil Rights Investigator may also be involved in developing and presenting training regarding the University’s Non-Discrimination Policy and Sexual Misconduct Policy, and they may collaborate with on- and off-campus service providers to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate processes for reporting discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation at the University. 
Though this individual will deal with cases from both campuses, this individual will office on the Anschutz Medical Campus once trained.
Conditions of Employment:  Must be willing and able to work on both the Downtown and Anschutz Medical campuses.
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $45,000 to $62,500 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:  
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • 1 year of professional level experience conducting investigations, writing fact finding reports, and developing and delivering training. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s or Professional Level Degree in a related field from and accredited institution 
  • Experience in Higher Education, College student conduct, or civil rights/equal opportunity field.
  • Three (3) years experience conducting investigations 
  • Training in Title IX and/or Title VII and/or civil rights investigations
  • Training in sexual assault investigation

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to speak with individuals about sensitive and difficult topics, including sexual assault experiences.
  • Knowledge of employment and educational civil rights laws, regulations, and case law.
