The Office of Advancement has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Director of Development position.
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus ranks among the top institutions nationally in clinical care, education and research. Its 230-acre campus, designed to enhance collaboration and interprofessional education, hosts the College of Nursing; the Schools of Dental Medicine, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health; the Graduate School; a Health Sciences Library; and two hospitals. Position Emphasis:This position coordinates, directs, and implements development activities related to mental health and behavioral health initiatives in collaboration with the Johnson Depression Center (JDC) and its affiliated clinics and programs (e.g., Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic).  This position serves as primary JDC philanthropic advisor for benefactors willing and able to make major gifts (≥$25K) to grow and sustain vital Center programs, and may direct one or more development personnel.  This position ins responsible for planning, implementing and coordinating fundraising activities for designated program(s); plans and carries out the institution's program of soliciting major gifts.  Will lead a particular fundraising unit, and work directly with the Center and Clinic staff.  May be responsible for managing a designated budget. 
Essential Duties:
  • Works to cultivate existing and new donor (individual, corporate, and foundation) relationships with the intent of sustaining and increasing the relationship with the donor.
  • Initial focus will be on having gift conversations with benefactors capable of making major gifts of ≥$25K.
  • Portfolio Management:  Manages portfolio consisting of a minimum of 60 major gift prospective benefactors. Goals relating to personal visits, number of gift proposals, grants, and prospect identification to be co-created with, and approved by, leadership. 
  • Works daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges and fund agreements.  Documents prospective benefactor strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospective benefactors and generates stewardship reports and general correspondence daily to cultivate major gifts.
  • Plans and implements programs that include measurable targets for each fiscal year (e.g., personal visits, stewardship activities, gift proposals).
  • Works closely with JDC Board of Directors
  • Works closely with JDC faculty and staff to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives.  Facilitates productive relationships daily between benefactors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effectiveness of programs.
  • Represents the Development Office at events in order to support the University and cultivate benefactors.
  • Oversees all JDC annual luncheon activities
  • Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of major gift experience.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required, approximately twenty-five percent (25%) to thirty percent (30%) along the Front Range and ten percent (10%) to fifteen percent (15%) travel by air.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate work in a related field.
  • Demonstrated performance of raising $1M+ per year in individual giving over multiple years.
  • Experience in working with a Board of Directors.
  • Experience in working with a signature fundraising event. 
Competencies:
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize and close major gift conversations
  • Highly relational with high emotional IQ
  • Expert knowledge of fundraising techniques.
  • Expert ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and develop and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Expert ability to analyze information / situations and solve problems.
  • Expert ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality.
  • Solid ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; must have ability to work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to engage and inspire other fundraisers
  • Solid knowledge of current issues facing public universities and interests of assigned school, students, faculty, and alumni.
  • Solid ability to recruit and manage activities of volunteer staff with significant capacity to give. 
  • Solid ability to cultivate and solicit donations from individuals at leadership gift level.
  • Personal computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Products and donor tracking software (Advance).  Computer skills may be subject to testing/verification.
