A Ph.D. in journalism/mass communication or a PhD in another field or discipline that includes a demonstrated stream of media-focused research is required. Position Summary

The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Journalism to begin August 2019. Joining the journalism department means being part of a dynamic, diverse program at a Research I university with award-winning faculty and students and a collegial and collaborative environment. The department seeks an accomplished scholar and journalist to instruct our students in, and educate the public about, the art, science and integrity of telling the story. We will consider hiring at either the rank of assistant or associate professor, with the possibility of immediate tenure for an outstanding scholar. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester and conduct research in journalism and media-related areas. Courses may include investigative journalism, data journalism, and other courses in the core curriculum. The Grady College celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015. The college is home to the Peabody Awards, the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism awards. In addition to its undergraduate programs, the Grady College also houses graduate programs offering M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees. The college hosts student chapters of the Association for Women in Sports Media, the National Association of Black Journalists, NPPA, the Online News Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. Additional Requirements Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Candidates for assistant professor must show evidence and promise of sustained research productivity. Candidates for tenure on appointment must meet the university and college criteria for appointment as an associate professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the University of Georgia.
Successful candidates should have a deep familiarity with journalism practice and issues; a minimum of five years of industry experience preferred. Candidates must have the ability to mentor and direct a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students.
