Position Summary

The School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical (ECAM) Engineering within the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA) strives for excellence and global leadership in engineering education, research and service on and beyond the campus of a nationally recognized top twenty land-grant and liberal arts institution. The next generation of engineering faculty will need extraordinary talent to educate and to engage in scholarship to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The ECAM School seeks such talent to fill a new full-time (academic year) tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. This search particularly invites applicants with a research focus in the broad field of advanced manufacturing. Specific research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, additive manufacturing, precision machining, information technologies as applied to manufacturing, production process controls and automation, sustainability in manufacturing and product design, cyber manufacturing, tribology and diagnostics, and multi-material (e.g., composites or biomaterials) manufacturing. The position will be available August 1, 2019 or earlier.

Additional Requirements

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in an engineering discipline, including but not limited to Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

A specific expertise in advanced manufacturing and the ability to collaborate with state and regional industrial partners is desired. Three years of formative postdoctoral or industrial experiences, a strong publication record, and demonstrated success in proposal writing are preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

A demonstrated record of excellence exhibiting leadership traits, effective communication, and the ability to develop innovative collaborative programs. Candidates capable of teaching courses in process controls, advanced manufacturing and product design and graduate courses in any of the expertise areas below are highly desirable.

Successful candidates will join a growing and interdisciplinary team of researchers and educators in the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering (ECAM) and work closely with colleagues throughout the College of Engineering and UGA. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the Mechanical Engineering program’s developing a research program in the area of Advanced Manufacturing of national and international prominence, developing courses and pedagogical approaches to educate UGA engineers, and partner with faculty in other disciplines and with industries to build a vibrant research program that leads to collaborations across and integration of multiple fields of study. Candidate’s research program will be expected to focus on technological innovations and advances in basic knowledge, and take a systems perspective to significantly benefit society. Candidates should compete successfully for extramural funding to support research and a companion graduate and postdoctoral training program. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses. Candidates capable of teaching courses in process controls, advanced manufacturing and product design and graduate courses in any of the expertise areas below are highly desirable.
