Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

At least five years of directly relevant experience securing DoD grants or contracts at a major U.S. research university or private contractor. An advanced degree in a relevant engineering or science-related field and experience engaging teams of collaborative researchers in DoD-relevant programs. Currently possess or have the ability to obtain security clearance.

Position Summary

An experienced individual to deepen existing relationships, as well as build new collaborations, with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and other mission-driven agencies. The University enjoys important but isolated relationships with these sponsors and is intent on increasing grant and contract funding to UGA from the U.S. Department of Defense and other similar federal agencies. Reporting jointly to the Vice President for Research and the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Director of Defense and Security Collaborations will accomplish these goals by working closely and collaboratively with colleagues in Sponsored Projects Administration, the Office for Proposal Enhancement, Innovation Gateway (UGA’s tech commercialization arm), Government Affairs, and administrators and faculty in colleges and departments across the university. Of particular importance will be leveraging the recent growth of the College of Engineering into new opportunities for grant-sponsored and contract-sponsored translational research. The College of Engineering has received funding from several DoD agencies, including DARPA, the US Air Force, the US Navy, and the US Army, and the Director of Defense and Security Collaborations will be expected to build on these successes and others across the University to expand the DoD funding portfolio even further.

Serve as the knowledgeable UGA point of contact for DoD with respect to UGA expertise and reciprocally for UGA faculty interested in DoD opportunities.

Regularly attend DoD meetings (e.g., proposer day events), visit DoD facilities, network with DoD program officials, attend relevant webinars and monitor online opportunities, sharing information gleaned via these channels with appropriate UGA parties.

Identify UGA research faculty, programs and assets that align with evolving DoD priorities and encourage and assist relevant faculty and administrators in connecting with appropriate DoD officials and taking advantage of DoD funding opportunities.
